Extinct! No More Chocolate but What We Can Do?
Yes, I have finally succumbed to the proverbial aspect of news worthy articles and tidbits. It is now part of history, I did it! I am putting up an article on Chocolate! There is nothing better than Peanut butter and Chocolate, or vanilla ice cream with rich hot fudge on it. Well, almost nothing better; except chocolate and caramel. The worse fate for a chocolate devotee, I suppose is to think there is no more of the stuff.
Now even more go together s with Chocolate. This is one truth about chocolate that chocolate lovers know, it goes well alone. However, for many; the success of Chocolate is that it goes well with other things. Chocolate and coffee, Chocolate and peanut butter, Chocolate and ice cream, Chocolate in Milk-then heated and topped with cream, Chocolate in cookies, Chocolate cake-German that is, and during the holidays; it is a winner. Every year at the Holidays, Grandma and I would start our baking and making. We made all kinds of cookies, sweets, and then there is the fudge. An Old Fashioned fudge, hard to make. It is a touch of dark chocolate, and not overly sweet. Then there was the million dollar fudge with marshmallow which many love, it is overly sweet; which my dad did not like. He liked the dark old fashioned.
But the fact of dark chocolate and it’s attributes is important as well. It is nutritious and has fiber, Iron, Magnesium, Copper, and Manganese to name a few things. It is also a great source of Antioxidants. Dark chocolate is loaded with polyphenols, flavanols, and catechins which function as antioxidants. Studies have also revealed that dark chocolate can improve blood flow and decrease blood pressure. It also improves the HDL and lowers the LDL as well as improving insulin sensitivity. Plus if you eat dark chocolate two or more times a week it can reduce calcium plaque in the arteries.
As other studies show, information found here reveal:
In a study of 470 elderly men, cocoa was found to reduce the risk of cardiovascular death by a whopping 50% over a 15 year period (16).
Another study revealed that eating chocolate 2 or more times per week lowered the risk of having calcified plaque in the arteries by 32%. Eating chocolate less frequently had no effect (17).
Yet another study showed that chocolate 5+ times per week lowered the risk of cardiovascular disease by 57% (18).
Of course, these 3 studies are so-called observational studies that can not prove that it was the chocolate that caused the reduction in risk.
In addition dark chocolate also helps improve blood flow to the skin and protect it against sun damage. But studies have also revealed the the high flavanol content in chocolate can improve brain function. There are many benefits to chocolate. But overeating on the sweeter, lower cocoa candy bars that many Americans eat to many of; is not good.
For me personally, I only buy organic bars. They are higher cocoa content and considered dark chocolate. While I also buy the lighter cocoa, which is organic as well, it is still higher in cocoa than reg candy bars; which I don’t indulge in very often at all.
One of the issues involving dark chocolate, Finley said, was the amount of sugar and fat that chocolate candy contained. He said you could avoid those substances by putting cocoa powder on oatmeal, as he does.
He said it was possible that the beneficial compounds contained within cocoa powder might one day be processed into pill form, and noted that Mars Inc., the maker of M&M candy, was partially funding research into that possibility.
Finely said he wasn’t very excited by this prospect.
“I would rather eat a big old chocolate cookie or a cup of cocoa than … take a pill,” he said
Mercola has this on the Health Benefits of Dark Chocolate. Here is an excerpt:
A wide range of accumulating scientific research has linked chocolate consumption to over 40 distinct health benefits
The closer your cocoa is to its natural raw state, the higher its nutritional value; ideally, your chocolate or cocoa should be consumed raw (cacao)
But in closing, let me produce the scripture which says, “the fruits that thy soul lusted after are departed” and “all things which were dainty and goodly are departed.” This refers to all things, and in America we have been blessed to have so much!
Rev 18:14-15 KJV
14 And the fruits that thy soul lusted after are departed from thee, and all things which were dainty and goodly are departed from thee, and thou shalt find them no more at all.
15 The merchants of these things, which were made rich by her, shall stand afar off for the fear of her torment, weeping and wailing,
Many years ago, when I started out warning; there was alot ahead of us at the time to do. But the first order of business was reflected to me early one morning when I realized according to scripture “all these things thy soul lusted after are gone, or will be gone”. The truth is, not just chocolate but many things, in these last days will be gone; forever. In America, our lifestyle, in the western nations, and in Europe the fineries and pleasantries will be gone; one day! This is the end of days and these things will occur. So if and when it does, I will do without them!
But until then, we can enjoy some things; like chocolate. The possibility of running out of chocolate has made headlines around the world. Hard to figure, so in this repose; I post this important fare today on Chocolate.
