The nations have heard surely, but did Israel understand what had happened. They had been shaken, forsaken, and the end of the world came, in one word, the Apocalypse. Israel had been divided after the reign of Solomon, then the two houses; Judah and Israel known as Ephraim or the Northern Tribes would live independently of each other. In time both houses would see judgment, destruction, devastation, uprooting them from the land. Their houses left empty, lands scarred by warfare, and the people carried captive. Judah was the last to go. Babylon’s hand in the judgment of Judah is well known. The devastation was such that the temple, walls, and city were overrun by the enemy. They carried away precious things, valuables, and the people themselves, leaving the peasants to work the land. Over the years, the nations had come to understand what had happened. Today, even more so, the nation of Israel is a tiny spot that faces enemies on all sides.
