US GMD system ‘costly, fails to hit targets, failure’ according to a report. The Union of Concerned Scientists report pushes the cost of the project and it’s results to a point where you wonder if this thing will ever be fixed. The problem today is, “now is not the time to say, we have no defense system”! With the increase Russian animosity and the climate of the US-Russian relations on ‘cold war’ status and the China-American relations at odds over the South China sea; we do not need any more enemies.
When it comes to having such a missile defense system that could hit incoming missiles, our enemies simply respond “we’ll send in more rockets than you could possibly stop.”
Ground-Based Midcourse Defense (GMD) is the United States’ anti-ballistic missile system for intercepting incoming warheads in space, during the midcourse phase of ballistic trajectory flight. It is a major component of the American missile defense strategy to counter ballistic missiles, including intercontinental ballistic missiles (ICBMs) carrying nuclear, chemical, biological or conventional warheads. GMD is administered by the U.S. Missile Defense Agency (MDA), while the operational control and execution is provided by the U.S. Army, and support functions are provided by the U.S. Air Force.
But the problem here is that in the end, the arms race and the nuclear option is on the table for: China, Russia, America, Iran, Israel, North Korea, Pakistan, India, and also other nations; plus don’t forget ‘dirty bombs’ and other ‘devices’ that terrorists can use against the US.
So if ‘y’all wouldn’t mind putting away all them nuclear devices’ then maybe we can talk a bit about this!
