Beholding God means there are Greater things than these things which have been seen. As Philip and Nathanael both encounter the True Son of God, the truth was evident. For the Messiah Jesus Christ it would be revealed that he “would do greater things than these” which had been done. So too, Greater things are yet to come. Our God is on Throne and His Christ is Lord of Lord and King of Kings. The world may not know it, but one day they will: from the least to the Greatest! All will know this truth! -The Watchman Dana G Smith on Beholding God

Beholding God -Greater Things than These
In this encounter Philip went to find Nathanael, who in this segment is described by the Lord as one without any guile. That is, this man had no deceit or trickery connected to who he was. He was a Jew, an Israelite who simply wanted to be who he was. He also knew of the law and the prophets. It was on this day when Nathanael sat under his favorite fig tree, having snacked on some fruit; sat now meditating on the Lord God and His word. It is no doubt from the context that Philip and Nathanael spent time together discussing topics of importance. It was to Nathanael that Philip went to tell him of one among the Jews who fit Moses’ prophecy in the Torah. The specific sections which he spoke are found in Deuteronomy 18:15; 18:18; and in Genesis 49:10; 3:15.
Philip knew of Moses prophecy saying, “the LORD thy God will raise up unto thee a Prophet from the midst of thee, of thy brethren, like unto me; unto him ye shall hearken”! This is a major prophecy. Jesus spoke of Moses writing of him; here referring to the above scripture. Moses to the Jews at the time was a key source of authority, yet they denied the Lord relating to the Moses prophecy. For as the Lord said, “if you believed Moses”, then you have “believed me”. The word Moses occurs in fifty-six verses and is found fifty-seven times in those verses in the gospels. It is not hard to understand that before Philip now stood the very one Moses spoke about.
You can also believe that Philip and Nathanael had discussed many passages of scripture together. Especially now since there was among the Jews a hope of the coming consolation. Judah had gone into captivity for seventy years because of sin; and then brought back from captivity. Now they lived in the land, had a synagogue and under Roman rule could practice faith and live well. But they also wanted to know when the nation of Israel with all the tribes thereof could be or would be restored to full power as a nation. Now standing before Nathanael stood one whom many had come to follow and believe. This was in the beginning of the ministry of Jesus, Yeshua. Multitudes would join those who saw this radical prophet that came from Nazareth. Could God raise up a major prophet from a small town that many ignore? However, after this prophet declared he saw him under the fig tree even before Philip found him; this was all the man needed. He immediately saw him as the Son of God, he stood amazed. But the Lord calmed him down and assured him; “he would see greater things than these”!
Knowledge and Knowing God can be at odds against each other!
You would think the religious Pharisees, Lawyers, and others of importance among the Jews would recognize this Son of God. However, even with miracles and multitudes following Jesus Christ; the main enemy of the Son of God were the deeply religious authorities and others who should have known better. Simply put, they did not. The Lord when encountering this religious opposition quoted the prophecy of Isaiah [Esaias] 6:9 KJV “by hearing ye shall hear and shall not understand; and seeing ye shall see and shall not perceive”! This was given to a people that indeed could hear but did not understand the spiritual meaning of what was said. They would see the miracles and hand of God through the Messiah Jesus Christ [Yeshua] yet would not connect it to the full spiritual and scriptural fulfillment. Therefore, they had no understanding of the things of God in the sense of recognizing the true Messiah. In relation, they became like unto Satan who loved not those things of God. This was an offence to our Lord [Mat 3:23 KJV]. Here these religious who saw themselves opposed to Satan and open to God, became an enemy to the Messiah just as Satan was an enemy. Here let it be noted Satan uses religious zeal and religion in general for his purposes.
Today we find many things that are likened unto those times. Yes, we have more technology, things, and knowledge. We can create anything it seems with our current realm of technology and science. We can go to the Moon and beyond. We can understand many mysteries, yet the Truth of God; we do not know. In America we practice an abortion that allows the murder of babies, especially in the third trimester or worse. Yet in the truth of God and man, we are out of the loop. Today we have many religions and man still pursues knowing God. Yet God has already spoken through his only begotten Son Jesus [Yeshua] Christ. In addition, although this is true; many today do not believe. If they do, they fit God and scripture to their own morality. They fit God to their lifestyle, likes, desires, and attitudes. In short, they have cast off the truth of the scripture and adapted the Word to modern lifestyle and affections and desires.
The Laodicean church thought they were rich before God, yet they were wretched before him!
Because thou sayest, I am rich, and increased with goods, and have need of nothing; and knowest not that thou art wretched, and miserable, and poor, and blind, and naked: I counsel thee to buy of me gold tried in the fire, that thou mayest be rich; and white raiment, that thou mayest be clothed, and that the shame of thy nakedness do not appear; and anoint thine eyes with eyesalve, that thou mayest see.
Rev 3:17-18 KJV
The church in Ephesus had grown cold, leaving off their love of the Lord!
And hast borne, and hast patience, and for my name’s sake hast laboured, and hast not fainted. Nevertheless I have somewhat against thee, because thou hast left thy first love.
Rev 2:3-4 KJV
Pergamum, a former faithful church now allowed fornication and idolatry to go on in their midst
The church at Pergamum who held fast the name of the Lord, and not denied him. There were past martyrs among them. Yet they allowed among them people who held to the doctrine of Balaam and those who were Nicolaitans which the Lord hated. It amounted to idolatry and fornication and the church kept silent. This is what is happening today in America and many other nations around the world. But America this is something that has taken a nation over.
But I have a few things against thee, because thou hast there them that hold the doctrine of Balaam, who taught Balac to cast a stumblingblock before the children of Israel, to eat things sacrificed unto idols, and to commit fornication. So hast thou also them that hold the doctrine of the Nicolaitans, which thing I hate.
Rev 2:14-15 KJV
The worst of these, I suppose you could say; if there is a worst would be Thyatira. This church had done it all: works, charity or love, faith, patience, and more works. Here the word works is repeated twice to reveal how many works in the name of the Lord this church had done. Yet in their midst was a woman Jezebel, which in scripture represents Ahab’s wife found in 1 Kings 16:31 KJV. She was the one to bring idol worship and fornication into Israel. She was wicked, evil, and had no moral scruples at all. Jezebel represents consummate evil! This woman was known as a prophetess among the believers. She used her influence to seduce the gullible believers among them to follow this woman’s fornication and eat things unto idols.
This was a pagan ritual and common in the Roman Empire who was known for their feasting and drinking and orgies that went on. The evil of this is made known by the fact that scripture says that the Lord had “gave her space to repent” and she did not do so. As such the Lord warned that he would send this woman and those who follow her deeds with judgment. He would kill her children with death and in so doing this would show to all churches that the Lord “searcheth the reigns and hearts: and I will give unto every one of you according to your works Rev 2:23 KJV”! This would be a warning and a wakeup to all the believers who saw this occur. The sleepy, backslidden, and immoral church today needs to take heed! This also applies to so-called believers. There are many of these pseudo-believers with one toe in church and the other one in hell, doing things that are immoral. They deny that it is and even mention the Lord.
Thyatira: The worst of these would be Thyatira, they would be sent into tribulation and death
Notwithstanding I have a few things against thee, because thou sufferest that woman Jezebel, which calleth herself a prophetess, to teach and to seduce my servants to commit fornication, and to eat things sacrificed unto idols. And I gave her space to repent of her fornication; and she repented not. Behold, I will cast her into a bed, and them that commit adultery with her into great tribulation, except they repent of their deeds. And I will kill her children with death; and all the churches shall know that I am he which searcheth the reins and hearts: and I will give unto every one of you according to your works.
Rev 2:20-23 KJV
Despite all the trouble, repentance and a warning was given. The Lord works to redeem and make ready His kingdom for his bride, the church. The Ecclesia, the called-out ones are not the brick-and-mortar buildings that today’s churches have. The called-out ones are the people, the believers. These are the body of Christ Jesus who follow him, are faithful, and obedient to his Words in the Bible.
Beholding God -These End of Days
As we walk through these ends of days; the peril and evil that surrounds us is astounding at times. It can be gut wrenching to be around. But we as his disciples can overcome and as Revelation 12:11 KJV reads “they overcame him [Satan] by the blood of the Lamb [redeemed], the Word of their testimony, and they loved not their lives unto the death”! This scripture is past tense. It says we overcame already! We now are on the redemptive path for the Lord. Because of his victory, we are victorious. All we need to do is be faithful, stand fast in Christ as we run the race to the end.
The challenges can be extremely hard to overcome but know that this God who sent his Son is more than able to make a way for us. It is imperative for the believers to be ready and able to stand for the Lord. There is no doubt that today all who live, whether they believe in our Lord Jesus Christ or not will be forced to decide about him. One way or another they will be challenged to make that choice. These are the days when all mankind will be on the brink of destruction. Yet during the peril and tribulation one day will come upon this world bringing in the Lord’s kingdom.
As hard as it is to believe many will never repent come to the Lord Jesus Christ. In fact, there are those even today who plot to destroy the earth. There are those who would destroy it to force their kingdom to come. One day the Lord will come as the harvest of the earth will be ready. With his coming he will put a stop to it all. Thus, with His kingdom in its fullness and the harvest ready, he will destroy those on the earth who are wicked, and he will redeem his people from this evil.
The Kingdom of Our Lord and of the Almighty One who rules will bring in his Kingdom forever
And the seventh angel sounded; and there were great voices in heaven, saying, The kingdoms of this world are become the kingdoms of our Lord, and of his Christ; and he shall reign for ever and ever. And the four and twenty elders, which sat before God on their seats, fell upon their faces, and worshipped God, Saying, We give thee thanks, O Lord God Almighty, which art, and wast, and art to come; because thou hast taken to thee thy great power, and hast reigned. And the nations were angry, and thy wrath is come, and the time of the dead, that they should be judged, and that thou shouldest give reward unto thy servants the prophets, and to the saints, and them that fear thy name, small and great; and shouldest destroy them which destroy the earth.
Rev 11:15-18 KJV
When I get tired of the bad reports of evil, the plots to do wickedly, and of the peril daily; I look for the time when he will come. Our hope is beyond all this. When I get tired of the blood, the shedding of blood, the murderers, the persecutions, and all that surrounds us; I look to the Lord and his Kingdom. There are many who live in a different world. They live in an America which is non-existent. They live daily as in a fairy tale land of green valleys, forest, flowers, and nice ranches or beautiful homes.
There are Christians suffering worldwide for their faith, losing everything for Christ. Today in America, the filth is pouring out and the wickedness is bolder daily. Yet the silence from the churches and major pastors are devastatingly quiet. Many live today unto themselves and have separated themselves from what is really going on.
Beholding God -this will all end one day, but something greater comes!
The warning is clear, be warned it will end some day; where do you stand in Christ and for Jesus Christ?
The purpose and goal and reward for believers are clear, we must stand up for Christ and be in Christ Jesus as well. Our feet shod with the gospel of redemption and our hearts full of God’s love, our every being fueled by Gods promise and His Holy Spirit. We are to go, to challenge, to stand up, and to be counted for Jesus Christ. Our reward is before us, and the enemy is gathering the forces for the last great battle on planet earth.
Yet as we have seen such things, it shall be as Jesus told Nathanael; “You shall see greater things than these”! On our journey we will see miracles, signs, and wonders! We shall behold our glorious Lord and the New Jerusalem. In the end of all this, there is the New Heavens, New Earth, and a New Beginning for the redeemed of the LORD. I plan on being one of these and work to make sure I take as many with me as possible to that end time glory to which we must aspire and be with our Lord.

Thanks Watchman…oh yes, all types of people are molding their make believe “god” into what ever sin soaked/demon driven life style they revel in. But every one will be rewarded for what they have done. Count on it. As we scan the world, we are amazed at the amount of filth and sin…totally abounding. We wish that there would be a huge revival, but it just won’t happen. But the Lord is reaching individuals, and as much as the pope tries to blaspheme no one is individually saved, salvation is through the catholic church he is totally wrong. The Bible clearly shows that salvation is truly individual, so we strive to spread the Gosple, so as many can get saved as is possible. The peace of our Lord to you and Tower…Amen.
