Deceitfulness, Discernment, and Decision

Deceitfulness, Discernment, and Decision describe these lawless ends of days in which we live. Reflecting though I can see John the Baptist, dressed in Camel’s hair and broadcasting the words, “make straight paths for the Lord.” No doubt in Israel at the time they knew what back of woods prophets were. In John’s case, he was from the desert, spent time alone probably. Then the call came to send John out of the wilderness to the people so the message would be heard. Today we need to hear a call like that, “make straight paths”, don’t get “caught up” in society. Wake up! For many Americans today there is that common mentality of, “oh well it won’t happen here. Surely not in America.”

Deceitfulness, Discernment, and Decision

The truth is the judgment of the Lord Jesus Christ is nothing to sneeze at. It is real! Today in America the perception of sin, judgment, and repentance are glossed over by our lack of true fear of the Lord. For if we truly feared this God and his Only begotten Son, Jesus Christ, we would not do the things we do! Here I am not talking about ardent sinners and unbelievers. Nor about agnostics and atheists. I am speaking directly to the church of Jesus Christ.  You may say, “the church?” Yes, the “church”, which are those that gather around in buildings of all sorts in America and around the world to have what we commonly call “church.” When I was growing up, my dad made sure mom and I went to church every Sunday. That what it was, a Sunday go to meeting with all the other guys to went to church on that day. We still do the same thing today! Go to our meetings, regularly, and have church. We have Baptist church, Pentecostal church, catholic church, Methodist church, Mormon church, Jehovah witness church, independent church, holiness church, brethren church, and thousands of others. All meeting in different communities, churches, days, and with different beliefs. All except one, they all believe they are going to heaven, that they are following the truth, and no one can dissuade them otherwise.

As it is written in the book of the words of Esaias the prophet, saying, the voice of one crying in the wilderness, prepare ye the way of the Lord, make his paths straight.

Luke 3:4 | Deceitfulness, Discernment, and Decision

Discernment and Decision

The truth here is that all these churches and many more will be subject to the Lord Jesus Christ on judgment day. Their man-made doctrines, the days they meet to worship him, the way they act, and how they keep faith in him; yes, all this and much more will be subject to his judgment. He alone is the true witness, the true light of the world, and the one in whom God the Father has put all things, including judgment. Here it would be deemed prudent and wise to then do as the words “make your paths straight” imply. The factor here is that many think they are doing just that. If they follow church doctrine, the minister or deacon, follow their holy book, and keep everyone involved happy, then the chances of coming out of this with your soul saved is sealed.

The judgment is based on truths they believe in. Truths that they have been immersed in, grounded in, and honestly believe. They live in a nation guaranteeing the freedom of religion. They can enjoy peace and their religious lives, all in the dignity of the constitutional freedoms they also believe in. The Truth is, the judge is not your minister, deacon, America, the constitution, nor any number of other religions, gods, and idols. This judge is not swayed by your church attendance, what denomination, nor how fervent you are in that faith. You must, “make your paths straight” before the Lord Jesus Christ.

Now no chastening for the present seemeth to be joyous, but grievous: nevertheless, afterward it yieldeth the peaceable fruit of righteousness unto them which are exercised thereby. Wherefore lift the hands which hang down, and the feeble knees; And make straight paths for your feet, lest that which is lame be turned out of the way; but let it be healed.

Hebrews 12:11-13 | Deceitfulness, Discernment, and Decision

The Torah, Tanakh, Brit Chodesh and the Bible is full of teachings that tell people how to “make their paths straight.” When John the Baptist came around, he told the religious who came to listen “O generation of vipers, who hath warned you to flee from the wrath to come?”  These were the stalwart religious figures of Jesus’ day! The people all looked at these people and knew within themselves “if anybody makes it to heaven, it will be these Pharisee’s.” Yet, the truth was, they were justified by man-made doctrines and in fact they looked to Abraham as their father and followed, or so they thought, his example. The glue for them was that in the flesh, they were children of Abraham. Being that they were joined by physical DNA, this was a sure sign, they were the chosen of God. The truth was, God had blessed Abraham and his seed, but throughout all the bible we find a warning to keep covenant and follow the Lord.

These men needed to bring forth fruits for repentance. In other words, if they had repented and wanted the truth, the fruits would be evident. But in fact, we can see this plainly in Jesus’ ministry, they rejected his message, sought to slay him, and eventually saw that he was. They were religious, but without God. They thought they had his blessings, but they did not.  In the ministry of both John and Jesus came thousands who saw themselves as sinners. They received gladly the message and teaching. In John’s case, he was preparing the way for the Messiah and would eventually testify of who he was before the masses who came to him. Pure, simple repentance and belief or faith that if they came and did what they were told, God would be pleased. Jesus’ ministry was about bringing this home to the people who heard him. That God so loved the people, the world of humans, that this Merciful God made a way for them to be redeemed. But with that came duties, as the Lord points out in John chapter 8, verses 31-32 saying: “Then said Jesus to those Jews which believed on him, if ye continue in my word, then are ye my disciples; indeed, and ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.” This whole section is about Jesus speaking with Jews who trusted in their flesh, their inheritance, their origins, their DNA and not God. They were not redeemed, would not repent, and did not receive his word.

But when he saw many of the Pharisees and Sadducees come to his baptism, he said unto them, O generation of vipers, who hath warned you to flee from the wrath to come? Bring forth therefore fruits meet for repentance: And think not to say within yourselves, we have Abraham to our father: for I say unto you, that God is able of these stones to raise up children unto Abraham.

Matt 3:7-9 Deceitfulness, Discernment, and Decision

In simple terms, John said it and so did Jesus by telling them “If ye continue in my word then are ye my disciples indeed.” This is “making your paths straight.” If they were to do this, they would “know the truth, and this truth would free them.” They would then live in the world and not of it and could be the salt and light God intended them to be. The choice was to simply believe, follow, and have faith that this God sent his only begotten Son, Jesus Christ as the light of the world. When people in simple faith and repentance did that, they discovered the power of God in them. Jesus tells us this power of God in John chapter one verses 12-13 was to enable them “to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name: Which were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God.” These were people who listened, heard, received the word, and believed that word. Then that word, engrafted in their souls to produce fruit. Thus, they would indeed “produce fruit meet for repentance.”

Heaven and earth shall pass away: but my words shall not pass away. And take heed to yourselves, lest at any time your hearts be overcharged with surfeiting, and drunkenness, and cares of this life, and so that day come upon you unawares. For as a snare shall it come on all of them that dwell on the face of the whole earth. Watch ye therefore, and pray always, that ye may be accounted worthy to escape all these things that shall come to pass, and to stand before the Son of man.

Luke 21:33-36

But here is where Americans are in trouble, we have religion and solid physical evidence. Americans depend on many of the same things the Pharisee’s depended on. They looked back to their heritage, their church, their doctrines, their minister, or deacon, and even to America herself. They do not believe, many of them, that what they do is wrong. There is no such thing as a sinner. Certainly, society has rejected any notion of out and out rebellion against God. The concept of “sin and rebellion”, i.e. that man rejects laws set down by God, laws that they are to keep is a notion they scoff at. Further to even consider their sin and behavior something that could bring judgment on America is laughable to them.

No doubt there are church people who with their denominations follow their ministry protocol’s. They will defend them to the death if necessary. They hold to the doctrines of their own faith, many times, as if these are God himself. While in the same breath disavowing the “truth of God” through Jesus Christ. This truth is disavowed in many ways. To start “not loving each other”. If we are truly brethren in Christ and here brethren are those who keep the commandments of the Lord and walk in his ways and do so with love for each other.

In addition, not walking in bitterness, gossiping, slandering, adulteries, fornication, and unbelief; just to mention a few. Then there is murder, rape, incest, abortions, lying, stealing, lusting, idolatry, greed, and unbelief that Jesus Christ is truly the Son of God. Rejection of both him as truly divine and the Son of God. Rejection that with the Son is the Father. You cannot have the Father without the Son. Many church doctrines over the centuries have divided up the bible like soup kitchens in a marketplace. There you can choose what you like or don’t like. No fear of God, no consequences for sin, nothing! Just a place to feel good and have church. This is the way the devil likes it. No preaching of the gospel nor of holiness! Just having church!

You can discuss, cajole, argue, and get mad at these people, but many will simple not listen. The question is also asked here, “how many times are you going to tell a person about Jesus?”  Here, this nation and those in the churches all know Jesus Christ. Now, granted they may not truly of been born again, i.e. saved; but they have heard. Many times, they have rejected, put it off, and simply are disinterested. They don’t see themselves as sinners in need of saving. They don’t see themselves as having to “make their paths straight.” They don’t see a literal Messiah coming, one who will sit upon the Throne of David and judge all peoples. They know the truth, their own version, brand, and have their own salvation. In this also, they have their own spirit, own Jesus Christ. They don’t need yours. They are divided, in denominations, groups, and many different beliefs. Yet they are all going to heaven, just ask them!

If the church is divided and no one worries about judgment, then why should the unbelievers worry? If the church demonstrates love for each other by arguing, gossiping, fighting among themselves, and walking in bitterness, why should the unbeliever believe us? In short, we are indeed, worse than the Pharisees. For we have seen the True light of Jesus Christ, Yeshua and have trodden underfoot his blood and covenant. We have forsaken truth, love, light, and walk in our own ways. We are rich, in need of nothing, and we will tell the Lord a thing or two when we see him.

Deceitfulness, Discernment, and Decision

And having food and raiment let us be therewith content. But they that will be rich fall into temptation and a snare, and into many foolish and hurtful lusts, which drown men in destruction and perdition. For the love of money is the root of all evil: which while some coveted after, they have erred from the faith, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows. But thou, O man of God, flee these things; and follow after righteousness, godliness, faith, love, patience, meekness.

1st Timothy 6:8-11 | Deceitfulness, Discernment, and Decision

Moreover, the warning must be heeded, the snare is upon all the earth. There will be nowhere to run. We as Americans and the western nations have swum in greed and plenty. We have lived and become overcharged with the things of this world. We get rich and say it’s okay. We preach riches and ignore the warnings of it. We live in the “love of things and money”, yet we deny it. We covet, follow evil, and have erred from the faith because of it. Yet we are “rich and in need of nothing.” Where is the real gospel? Where is true holiness? Where is the disciple who in humble repentance seeks to fulfill his master’s words?

The snare is here my friends, and the games are over. God is giving those in the church a little more time to repent and make up their minds. The question is “how many will realize this and truly repent?” No doubt, expecting all the denominations to lay down their arms, books, teachings, names, and churches is out. No doubt they will think we are the ones who are off base.

Finally, it is the Lord who will bring this snare upon all the world. The snare also will find all those who in riches and lust failed to repent soon enough. For those who will come, though, in simple belief, simple repentance, and simply trust and follow our Lord wherever he leads, then these will find forgiveness, restoration, and the presence of God in their lives. This snare is upon all the world, and many are clamoring for souls today. It is high time for those who really know the Lord to get serious and get going for the Lord.

1. Seek the Lord in repentance
2. Seek the Lord in continuing to follow his words
3. Seek the Lord in following his leading for your life
4. Put the Lord first not the flesh
5. Your salvation is not man-made doctrines, titles, churches, other gods, or idols!
6. Be prepared for what comes, the snare is here, but soon it will get hot!
7. Get Caught up in Jesus Christ, not Caught up in the religiosity of the flesh!

And we know that we are of God, and the whole world lieth in wickedness. And we know that the Son of God is come, and hath given us an understanding, that we may know him that is true, and we are in him that is true, even in his Son Jesus Christ. This is the true God, and eternal life.
