Finite Life and the Infinite Truth

People today live recklessly as they face a Finite life and then realize too late there is Infinite Truth. Today, many people are moved emotionally. People’s societies are bent led by feelings and hedonism. If they don’t get what they want, many will pout and throw a tantrum. They do this by rioting, pillaging, lighting fires, and even murder. But the reality of your life is that your life is not yours alone. God can take your life at any moment. Finite Life and the Infinite Truth means Living Life and knowing there is the Eternal God.

Finite Life and the Infinite Truth

Finite life is our focus compared to the Lord’s timeline of ‘One Day is as a Thousand Years’ is examined. Finite Life does not last forever, and the truth is Infinite. Infinite Truth reveals to us that our God who is Truth is infinite and beyond all earthly ideals. It is this Infinite Truth to which we find ourselves held accountable. It is also the Lord who came from the Infinite to the finite to bring to us eternal redemption. A truth we live with daily!

There is a decision all people make. For these it is a question that is always in the back of their minds. It is personal and asks pointedly; how do I live my life? In America, we utilize the guaranteed rights in the Bill of Rights to make sure we follow life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. It is not hard to find people selfish, self-centered, and focused totally on their own feelings and life. Life, however, while it is about living and living that life everyday day; the question remains. Do you live your life for the Lord?

For a thousand years in thy sight are but as yesterday when it is past, and as a watch in the night. For all our days are passed away in thy wrath: we spend our years as a tale that is told.

Psa 90:4,9 | Finite Life and the Infinite Truth

In a world that is hell bent on having its own way; we quickly find out the difference in the race set before us. Moses the prophet of God said, “a thousand years in thy sight are but as yesterday.” It was a watch in the night, which came and went very quickly. Peter also referred to this, urging those he wrote to in second Peter to “be not ignorant of this one thing” reminding them that “one day is with the Lord as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day!” The everlasting nature of our God and Father is a testimony to the unfathomable nature he has.

He is above all, in all, and knows all. Yet in all that he is and always will be is God infinite; one who is Holy and above reproach. One who is love, full of grace, and mercy! It is this God who revealed himself to Moses upon his asking.  It was a remarkable sight, because as we read what happened; indeed, I would have liked to have been there. That is, upon being asked to join in. But this experience was between the LORD and Moses. No one among the children of Israel was there either. But the truth of who the ancient of days was and is can be described by using his own words.

And the LORD descended in the cloud, and stood with him there, and proclaimed the name of the LORD.

And the LORD passed by before him, and proclaimed, The LORD, The LORD God, merciful and gracious, longsuffering, and abundant in goodness and truth, keeping mercy for thousands, forgiving iniquity and transgression and sin, and that will by no means clear the guilty, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children, and upon the children’s children, unto the third and to the fourth generation.

And Moses made haste, and bowed his head toward the earth, and worshipped.

Exo 34:5-8 | Finite Life and the Infinite Truth

He said, the LORD, the LORD God; that is, Yahweh, the covenant one; a personal God keeping covenant with his people; those who love him and keep covenant with him.  The God who is above all Gods and is merciful, gracious, longsuffering, and full of goodness and truth. It is out of our God and Father that came Love, and from Love came his Mercy in the form of his grace or favor towards us even when we did not deserve it. Today we find his grace through faith and in this we find his mercy and redemption because of Christ Jesus. However, in the time of Moses he was described as the following: which seven truths present to us the sovereign and eternal nature of our God and Father.

  1. Keeping mercy for thousands
  2. Forgiving iniquity
  3. Forgiving transgression
  4. Forgiving sin
  5. Not clearing the guilty, but holding them accountable
  6. Visiting iniquity upon following generations
  7. He was immediately worshipped by Moses upon experiencing the presence and power of this God!

Because of this we find that Peter’s address regarding the thousand years as one day was meant to explain why at times, it seems like the Lord is never coming. Why does it seem like he never answers? Why his goal is that “he is not willing that any should perish”! Simply put, the Lord wants all to come to repentance. It is here that Peter reminded his readers that the “day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night.” For many who are busy and seem to have forgotten God and his goal to redeem all men, the end of all things will come quickly. It is here that although many have lived and died since the time of Moses; the time that they will meet their maker, comes very quickly.

But, beloved, be not ignorant of this one thing, that one day is with the Lord as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day. The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance. But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night; in the which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat, the earth also and the works that are therein shall be burned up. Seeing then that all these things shall be dissolved, what manner of persons ought ye to be in all holy conversation and godliness, looking for and hasting unto the coming of the day of God, wherein the heavens being on fire shall be dissolved, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat?

2Pe 3:8-12 | Finite Life and the Infinite Truth

The Lord is persistent in making it clear that all things in heaven and earth are in his time clock, not man’s. It is clear, that although men and nations have plans, it is the Lord’s purpose for them that will stand. In proverbs we find this scripture that points to the futility of men’s contrivances and plots. The word in the KJV is H4284, translated as devices. This word is a little deceiving here because the intention is contrivance, plan, purposes, thoughts, all avenues out of the imagination of men’s hearts and mind. They are devious and aimed to overthrow the Lord’s work in the hearts of men and among the nations; the Lord is disregarded. Yet, despite their rebellion [read Psalm 2], he will rule, and it is the counsel [plan, advisement, advice] i.e. ‘law’ of the Lord that will stand.

There are many devices in a man’s heart; nevertheless, the counsel of the LORD, that shall stand.

Prov 19:21 | Finite Life and the Infinite Truth

This rule or law found in Proverbs applies to Christians non-Christians alike. Christians pray and seek the Lord in many matters. We think we know best, but in all we can trust the Lord and his counsel to move us in the proper ways concerning these issues we ask about or for. I can rest in the solid Word of God that in all things I know his love, mercy, and grace will be with me in all situations. I can be assured that he knows all and even when I may not understand why things happen; I can trust the Lord that in these things, it will work out.

This places us as Christians firmly in the grasp of the will of the Lord our God and Father through Jesus Christ. It is here that as we live, work, play, and testify about the Lord and the gospel of Jesus Christ in the world, he is with us to the very end of days. We must acknowledge that at times it seems like the Lord is taking his time coming back. But we also must know that all this is timing and grace. The purpose of the Lords coming is to redeem his people and to fulfill the Word of God. He will put down all enemies, but he wants all men to be redeemed.

In addition, the Gospel of John contains the famous verse John 3:16. This verse illustrates the “love of the truth” found in 2nd Thessalonians chapter two. This simply put is the salvation verse many people know today.  However, when taken in context with other verses we find that there are people who will not come to the light to be saved. They won’t come because they love darkness more than light. In fact, scripture says those who do evil hate the light and will not come to the light of Jesus Christ and that of the Gospel of salvation. They won’t come because if they do, their evil deeds will be exposed for what they are. This is the truth and although we want all men to repent and come to a saving knowledge of Jesus Christ, they won’t come. Many in these last days will be led by the Son of Perdition mentioned by Paul in 2nd Thessalonians chapter two. He will be the delusion that will seal the fate of those who will be led into destruction at this hand. This is the judgment of God on all men and nations for rejecting Gods offer and denying the death of his only begotten Son, Jesus Christ.

For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved.

He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.

And this is the condemnation, that light is come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil.

For everyone that doeth evil hateth the light, neither cometh to the light, lest his deeds should be reproved. But he that doeth truth cometh to the light, that his deeds may be made manifest, that they are wrought in God.

John 3:16-21 | Finite Life and the Infinite Truth

It is imperative for believers to understand that although we are in the end of days, the Lords coming may wait a long time or be here quicker than you think. We simply don’t know the exact details. We know the season of his coming. We are told to be about the Lord’s work and to be watching and waiting for him. We are to look for him and to this we are to keep at it until he arrives. Living daily as though he may come any second but knowing that we must be about the Lord’s business and even living our own lives with all that this entails. This is okay in the sight of God to live for Him, he told us to occupy till he comes again. This is one of the points in the parable he gives of the Ten Servants to whom he gave Ten pounds.

And he called his ten servants, and delivered them ten pounds, and said unto them, Occupy till I come.

Luk 19: Finite Life and the Infinite Truth

Finally, the psalmist says at the end of the writing of this ninetieth song that in the end “we spend our years as a tale that is told.” Today life passes quickly, so let us pass life working and loving, keeping the light and our torch alive for our family, those around us, and faithfully waiting for his return. Keep your love alive in Christ Jesus and to all the brethren around you. Be sure that troubles will come, but despite the perilous times; our hope lay in the Eternal hand of God through Jesus Christ our Lord and will never loose us from his grip.  Be assured of this; God loves you and sent his son Jesus Christ to redeem you. He will never forsake you!

For a thousand years in thy sight are but as yesterday when it is past, and as a watch in the night. For all our days are passed away in thy wrath: we spend our years as a tale that is told.
