God -The Difference a Day Makes

God, Time, and man; along with the propensity of Carelessness and thinking we have time. Time to burn, time to repent, and time to do what we like. But the truth is the small fraction of space in a person’s life known as time. That small fraction is the difference a day makes. It can be said, One day does make a difference. With us time goes so fast, literally so, that in fact days become weeks, and then months. Before long a year has passed. In man’s time table eternity is or can be something hoped for but yet misunderstood. How can something or someone temporal truly understand eternity?

God -The Difference a Day Makes

Our God lives in the eternal. He is all knowing, all powerful, all present, and also lives in the realm where time and space has no hold on him. Time space for you and I holds us in its grip. Yet this God who lives in the realm of no time, called time into existence creating it for his use. This God who is not affected by time called the end of time into existence before it actually occurred. Scriptures says of this:

Isa_46:10 Declaring the end from the beginning, and from ancient times the things that are not yet done, saying, my counsel shall stand, and I will do all my pleasure:

Isa_46:10

It is amazing that this God can live in such a realm and be as he is. Living in the eternal yet looking down at the sons of men in the temporal. It is here, though, with men that our God sought to bring redemption after Adam and Eve’s fall. Such the case that in this fall, death and life became apparent. What was eternal and living with God one minute became a separation, a curse, and death became the way of life for all humans who followed our first parents Adam and Eve.  Can you even think of the stigma upon you for such a sin? I mean, the entire human race met with death because of what happened with Adam and Eve in the fall! Thank God for forgiveness and redemption, so with Adam and Eve, so with all men. Now through the second Adam, Yeshua [Jesus Christ] there is life eternal. The way of redemption has been made through the Passover Lamb and the blood of the covenant.

Here we can see a day passing. One moment in the unlimited time on earth taking care of the garden and living before God. The next day cast out into the world, separated from God. No more warmth, cold sets in. No more blamelessness but now the knowledge of sin and death.  This was one day, one moment of time as you can call it and within that time frame a lifetime of separation from God. That is until our redeemer came.

It is with this time frame but yet more defined that Peter spoke of. This was in a conversation concerning the coming of the Lord. It is true as one reads the epistles of the apostles that they thought about his coming. Many times it seemed as if they expected him to arrive any second. The times and seasons of godlessness in the Roman Empire made it seem as it his arrival could not wait. Many anticipated our Lords kingdom coming at any second, yet it did not. Peter said of this that “one day is with the Lord as a thousand years and a thousand years as one day.” So if one day is a thousand years, then not even a week has passed since our Lords death on the cross, his burial, and resurrection.

One day is with the Lord a thousand years
2Pe 3:8  But, beloved, be not ignorant of this one thing, that one day is with the Lord as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day.
2Pe 3:9  The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.
2Pe 3:10  But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night; in the which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat, the earth also and the works that are therein shall be burned up.
2Pe 3:11  Seeing then that all these things shall be dissolved, what manner of persons ought ye to be in all holy conversation and godliness,
2Pe 3:12  Looking for and hasting unto the coming of the day of God, wherein the heavens being on fire shall be dissolved, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat?
2Pe 3:13  Nevertheless we, according to his promise, look for new heavens and a new earth, wherein dwelleth righteousness.

Second Peter Chapter Three

Peter said the day of the Lord would come, but as a thief. Why? It would seem as a thief because of men’s impatience, men’s ignorance of God, men’s rebellion. They would be so busy in their own life, that time would pass by unnoticed until it was too late.  No doubt that as temporal sinning man is busy with his own fun and ideas, not to mention his own stubborn ways, eternal things are far away. Societies are like this as well, nations too! They are all too busy to notice, yet one day can make all the difference in the things of God. One day those thousand years will be finished. One day the trumpet will sound. One day, just 24 hours later, in man’s human idea of time, the Lord will appear. That which is eternal and our Savior and Lord will enter once again into the temporal limited space known as time to you and I. It is limited. It is hard to control. In all, we have knowledge of; time is something we lose at. Yet even if we could control time, we could not control destiny and our place before the eternal God who has called us to repent. But God has given into our hands the ability to repent and seek this God and his Son. With this, we can indeed make a decision to follow our God and be prepared when he does finally enter into our sphere of space on earth to set up his kingdom.

Act_17:30 And the times of this ignorance God winked at; but now commandeth all men every where to repent:

Acts

Paul speaking of the ‘times of this ignorance’, means that time when men did not know this God, he had referred to man’s idea of God in the past. Man worshipped him in their own ways. They had an idea of a higher power but this translated into many ways, many ideas, many gods, idols, and misunderstanding. Yet God had implanted in man moral attributes to know better and to really be at a place to know this God. But when God sent his son, this “time of ignorance” was called to an end. No longer would God look the other way, for he had brought to fruition the redemption of man. The very redemption man lost in the beginning now was brought to its final and conclusive step with the son of God Yeshua ha Massiach.

Again, what a difference a day makes. They find themselves one moment worshipping idols, the next moment being born again of the Spirit of God. At this time true knowledge of the Most High and his laws are placed or circumcised in our hearts by the Spirit of God. We who were ignorant now find that we know the God whom is Eternal. We who are affected by the temporal, living in bodies that will decay and pass away, called the ‘body of this death”, find ourselves with renewed hope. A hope that moves from the temporal realm to the eternal God who saw to it we could be safely delivered into his presence.

Moreover, Israel knew of the day of deliverance. Once moment held hostage by the Pharaoh and all of Egypt and then the next, they were on their way out of bondage. God had overthrown the Pharaoh, his armies, nature itself, and all the demons in hell including the devil just had to sit and watch.  It is true that when God moves, nothing in heaven or hell can stop him. As Paul says, “knowing the terror of the Lord, we persuade men.” God made a way for deliverance, yet for those who were his enemy, death was theirs. Scripture says “those who hate God, love death”, no more true in Israel’s day than today.  For there are many who hate God, despise God, and yet in their limited knowledge of God think as with the Devil, God can do nothing. Well for all those naysayers of God and disobedient, you have seen nothing yet.  God knows how to deliver the righteous while delivering judgment and justice to the rebellious and wicked who hate him.

In addition the Psalms are full of reminders of the day and the difference it can make.  One time you may face death or trouble, but as in Psalm 20:1, “the LORD hears thee in the day of trouble.”  The Lord is faithful; he knows those who are his. Moreover the Psalmist says in 42:3 “my eyes have been my meat day and night” and all the while the enemies are saying “where is thy God?” Have you ever been troubled like this? You seek God, cry, and water the couch with tears as you seek this God, all the while friends and neighbors are watching and saying “okay, smart aleck, where is your God now?” Make no mistake there are people watching you and they also are asking the same poignant question. They want to know if there is a God and you claim to be his son or daughter by faith, then where is your God when you need him. Why doesn’t he deliver you as he says? Is your God dead or alive? If he is alive then why doesn’t he deliver you?  Yet Psalms 44:22 also relates this “for thy sake are we killed all the day long; we are counted as sheep to the slaughter.” That is the bottom line. Revelation 12:11 says this of being killed for his sake: “they overcame by the blood of the Lamb, the word of their testimony, and they loved not their lives unto the death.” In this scripture we see that the final deliverance does not see them living in their fleshly bodies. This scripture speaks of those who loved not their lives unto the death for the sake of the testimony of Jesus Christ their Lord.  It is the same faith and testimony the three Hebrew children had in Daniel. When face with death by fire, they said simply, “our God is able to deliver us Oh King, but know this, even if he does not we will not worship your image. “[Dan 3:17-18]

The Day in the Psalms:
Psa_20:1  To the chief Musician, A Psalm of David. The LORD hear thee in the day of trouble; the name of the God of Jacob defend thee;
Psa_42:3  My tears have been my meat day and night, while they continually say unto me, Where is thy God?
Psa_44:22  Yea, for thy sake are we killed all the day long; we are counted as sheep for the slaughter.

Psalms

Just one day makes all the eternal difference in the hereafter not to mention the world we live in. The eternal perspective and keeping that is paramount to the believer in our God and Father and Jesus Christ our Lord. To the Psalmist, “a day in thy courts is better than a thousand and I rather be a doorkeeper in the house of my God than to dwell in the tents of wickedness”. That is purpose. For those who are the Lords today, the same principle applies; we must rather be in Gods place than in the place of rebellion.  The relationship from day to day is seen in the Psalms as well. In repentance, “today if ye will hear his voice”; then in a warning “harden not your heart as in the provocation, and as in the day in the temptation in the wilderness.” The culmination of both of these is simply a relationship with this God and Father and Jesus Christ [Yeshua] in which the Psalmist says “seven times a day do I praise thee because of thy righteous judgments.” I could go on about this in the Psalms, but let us move on.

Psa_84:10  For a day in thy courts is better than a thousand. I had rather be a doorkeeper in the house of my God, than to dwell in the tents of wickedness.
Psa_95:7  For he is our God; and we are the people of his pasture, and the sheep of his hand. To day if ye will hear his voice,
Psa_95:8  Harden not your heart, as in the provocation, and as in the day of temptation in the wilderness:
Psa_119:164  Seven times a day do I praise thee because of thy righteous judgments.

Psalms

One difference a day makes is in that end time warning given us by our Lord, saying in Luke 21:34 “take heed to yourselves, lest at any time your hearts be overcharged with surfeiting, and drunkenness, and cares of this life, and so that day come upon you unawares.” This verse is especially for us in the westernized world. We have had so much and learned to our dismay that leaning on the arm of the flesh can take us away from God. Our society in its richness, evil, decadence, and many Gods is no friend of God. Yet for many Christians, we have in the day, forgotten that “friendship of the world, even America” is enmity with God.

Take care that “that Day does not come upon you unawares”
Luk_21:34  And take heed to yourselves, lest at any time your hearts be overcharged with surfeiting, and drunkenness, and cares of this life, and so that day come upon you unawares.

One day can make an eternal difference for your soul. “That day and hour” is a moment of time in the real world we live in where God has come. The final tally is taken and you will be judged as to whether you sought the redeemer and followed his Word. The whole world will be caught unaware. The time and hour is coming so fast and so quick man is unable to do a thing. From that moment on, eternity is real. Unbelievers will believe, atheists will finally know there is a God but it will be too late, and those who do wickedly will be paid for what they do. The tally is due, and it came one day too soon.

This is a difference a day makes. What follows are warnings of that Day and hour, be sure you will see it. The question is, “what difference will a day make in your life.” If you’re honest, you will know today, this hour, this moment I must repent and seek God walking in his ways and believing upon his Son Yeshua [Jesus Christ].

One Response to God -The Difference a Day Makes

  1. George Sheehan says:

Thanks Watchman…yes, it seems that people today are extremely busy. The pace of life is far quicker now, than when we were youngsters. As busy as people are today, they have no sense of urgency when it comes to things concerning God. Get saved? Why, I’m ok. Read the Bible? Why, I have my electronic devices. Eternity? I don’t buy into that concept. Besides, you can’t prove it to me. But they will realize one day, too late though, that they should have had a change of heart. When Paul talks about the terror of the Lord, this is no small matter. There will be weeping/wailing/and knashing of teeth…count on it. Our Lord’s peace to you and Tower…Aman.
