Loving the brethren in Christ Jesus, but not as Cain loved his brother! Brethren in Christ, but Not as Cain; this is a point for all Christians to remember. This is not about loving the ungodly, helping those in need, or loving humanity in general. These things we ought to be doing. I speak specifically to loving your brother or sister in Jesus Christ. As our Lord said, “whosoever shall do the will of my Father which is in heaven, the same is my brother, and sister, and mother.”

Loving the brethren in Christ Jesus
As Christians and thus being a light of Jesus Christ in the world, we will find that the world hates us; just as it hated our Lord. I was born and raised in America; I have lived a life without that hatred per se. That is hatred because I was a Christian. However, around the world we see this hate and persecution daily. Growing up, it was the Methodist church my family; including the grandparents went to! My Dads mother was a devout Christian. Plus, my grandmother’s sister was a four-square preacher all her life.
But in America the shedding blood for the faith of Jesus Christ never occurred. Neither did starvation. Nor famine. I was, like other children born of baby boomers, told to eat all my food. The reason, people were starving in Africa. So, I ate all my food, repeatedly. Suffering fate like many others, I developed the habit of eating. The result was, I gained weight as a child. Like many other children born out of the war generation, we were well cared for. We prospered. Churches grew, the faith of the followers developed in a society that became richer and more technologically savvy than many other nations around the world.
But he answered and said unto him that told him, who is my mother? And who are my brethren?
Matthew 12: 48-50 | Loving the brethren in Christ Jesus
And he stretched forth his hand toward his disciples, and said, Behold my mother and my brethren!
For whosoever shall do the will of my Father which is in heaven, the same is my brother, and sister, and mother.
We grew up amid a society that had many faiths, many diverse within Christianity. While the same idea of Jesus Christ was always there the loss of true Apostolic doctrine occurred. Modern doctrines, newer faiths, and different Jesus’ appeared. Today we have the Jesus and Mary of the Catholics. We have the church and the ideals of the Mormon Jesus. Then we have the anything goes Jesus of many other modern and liberal organizations. We, during all this, had faith. But we also became secular, divided, and loyal to a fault to our own denominations and fellowships. Pastors, leaders, and Theologians did the same.
We became rich and in need of nothing society. Within those churches, people developed into groups, they became political in their adherence. Remember Paul warning the Corinthians telling them that they were carnal, “for whereas there is among you envying, and strife, and divisions, are ye not carnal and walk as men”? The problem was they were arguing and had divisions among them because the leaders had brought to the people a new faith. One of division. One division was of Paul, another of Apollos, and another was of Christ. Today it is no different. It has been that way for centuries in the world since the Apostles walked this earth. We have denominations, many of them. But the first denominations were found at Corinth.
Now this I say, that every one of you saith, I am of Paul; and I of Apollos; and I of Cephas; and I of Christ. Is Christ divided? Was Paul crucified for you? or were ye baptized in the name of Paul?
1 Corinthians 1:12-13; 3:3-4 | Loving the brethren in Christ Jesus
For ye are yet carnal: for whereas there is among you envying, and strife, and divisions, are ye not carnal, and walk as men? For while one saith, I am of Paul; and another, I am of Apollos; are ye not carnal?
Now the real test in our faith is not the one to which many believers adhere to. They go to church as often as the church requires of them. But the truth is, there is a real test here. That test is not whether you have all the faith in the world to move mountains or to get rid of that cold you may have. It is not whether you get wealthy and stay healthy. The real test is your deeds and whether you do walk in the truth. The truth is the Word of God. What it reveals of God and our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ. Today many denominations regard the bible as errant and untrue. It is simply stories and Jesus is looked upon as a prophet, a good man, or even as the Father himself.
We have removed the relationship of Christ Jesus to His Father, stopped believing the Word of God is good for all faith and practice. We have stopped believing that there is a God and Father and his only begotten Son Jesus Christ. For example, one day a Pastor who I knew, and I debated whether the Father and the Son are the same personage or not. He like others of his ilk in the Christian church deny the Father and the Son; this is Anti-Christ. Yes, Anti-Christ and John says so in First John chapter two and verse twenty-two saying “Who is a liar but he that denieth that Jesus is the Christ? He is antichrist, that denieth the Father and the Son”. This Pastor would not listen. In fact, he had gotten up and told his congregation that there is no Father and Son. He denied that God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten Son.
I tell you this to let you know that heresy rises out the highest levels of the Seminary and theology departments in the religious Christian institutions. These lies are then passed down to the Pastors, leaders, teachers, and others in the church. This continue until the truth is what we are told by the denominational structures and associated bible colleges and universities which educate and give degrees to the graduates. These professionals become the leaders, Pastors, and Teachers professing truths that are not true. But the congregants believe them because they follow the church and its man-made institutions more than they do God and his Son Jesus Christ.
In all this I emphasize that although we all profess to be followers of Jesus Christ; denominational teachings and doctrines of men are viewed in higher regard than the bible itself. I could go on for pages and pages on the missives of denominational truths. Even Jesus Christ said, “ye made the commandment of God of none effect by your tradition” Matthew 15:6. But I write this today to emphasize that as Christians, if we all believe in Jesus Christ as the Son of God; who came to this earth to bring redemption through the blood of the atonement on the cross; by his death and resurrection, then we must Love one another.
You can bet our enemies and there are many, don’t quibble on this point. We saw this when ISIS went through Syria and Iraq. We continue to see this carried out in North Korea, China, Syria, Iraq, Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Indonesia, and Africa, along with nations around the world. Christians are killed for their faith in Christ. They are not killed because they are Baptist, catholic, or other denomination. The devil could care less about your denominations, it is Christ Jesus that they may preach, and it is Jesus Christ whom people believe in. The devil pushes humans in their own agenda, like that of ISIS who killed anyone who did not adhere to their belief. Christians, Yazidis, and even Muslims all became victims because they would not adhere to ISIS doctrine.
The one overriding factor in you being a Christian is that you love. By this Love, shed abroad in our hearts through the Holy Ghost; we know we are of the truth.
- You love the brother and sister who are in Christ Jesus
- You love and are humanely interested in helping the poor and afflicted in the world.
- You love the lost and want to see them saved.
- You have enemies and yet you want them to be saved.
- You love, yet you hate sin and what it does.
But make no mistake here, in the Christian church in America; and I suppose around the world in many westernized nations, this love is not evident. Today, and it has been that way for centuries, the denomination and the church fail to love beyond it’s own boundaries. True love. One which looks beyond the scope of the denomination and to the person. I have seen repeatedly denominational doctrines make Christians hate one another. Today even within the churches and denominations, those who are of the same belief have trouble genuinely loving each other as they should. We are reminded that “we should love one another.”
The Apostle John also warns us not to be as “Cain, who was of that wicked one, and slew his brother.” The Apostle says Cain slew his brother because his own works were evil, and his brother was righteous. We have only passed from death unto life, John says; “because we love the brethren”, for “He that loveth not his brother abideth in death.” Make no mistake here, though; these words are directed at those found in Christ Jesus. It is not about loving others as human beings or helping widows or orphans or others in the world, per se. We are to do this, anyway, sharing the love of Jesus with them. But the emphasis is on one thing in these passages. To love our brothers and sisters in Jesus Christ.
This is the failsafe of the Christian faith. Our works and our deeds proving we do love each other in the faith of Jesus Christ and to forgive as he forgave us. I had another Pastor whom I know here locally who told me he had a black Pastor friend whom he had tried to join their churches together as one. He even told that Pastor he could be the Senior Pastor. But the Black Pastor told him that he had people in his church that hated whites and would never become involved in that kind of a union. As a result, the idea was shelved and both churches went on their independent ways preaching Christ and pretending to be Christians. Although there were Christians who hated others because of the color of their skin and their race. In this case, blacks could not forgive whites nor consider them brothers in the faith. But the truth is, we find this all over America and the world today.
You see we have many Cains out in the world today. People whose deeds are evil and people who are murderers themselves. I speak not to them, but to the church. I have heard many times from other Pastors that although we are in different denominations, we all have the same belief in a savior. That is Jesus Christ. But to this I have stated and proved that it is not about this at all. It is the fact that although we say we have the same faith, the proof and test is the deeds and works we do. Those deeds and works are to Love our brothers and sisters in Christ. If we fail to do so, then we abide in death although we think we have life. When Pastors and other leaders of the Christian church fail to love each other as the Lord intended, then we have Cain in our midst and hate in our hearts.
The truth is here in America we have professional Pastors who operate their churches like major corporations. Whose own self-interests cover over the Love of the truth and the actions required by the Lord. We have professional religionists, globalist corporate denominations, and a push for a global church under all banners of religion. This is led in fact by many major global denominations, including the Catholic church. This is the Whore church in all its earthly glory, but before God they are unclean and an abomination. Even if these churches have the best humanitarian outreaches, without the love which John and the other Apostles tell us about that proves our faith in Jesus Christ; the result is wickedness. This love must be given to the brothers and sisters in Christ Jesus; then we go to those around us, and then the world!
John finishes this section by summing it up this way.
- God is greater than our hearts, he knows all things
- If our heart condemns us, we are in trouble!
- If our heart condemns us not, we can have greater confidence toward God.
- This greater confidence means we can believe that what we ask of him, we will receive it.
- We receive these things because we “keep his commandments and do those things pleasing in his sight”!
- One commandment John emphasizes is to “believe on the name of his Son Jesus Christ”!
- Another commandment John says here is to “love one another as he gave us commandment”!
It is imperative that you understand the things which I write today. But know this, the Lord is in charge and knows his church and will judge the same church; here it is people and not buildings. People he will judge and not denominational platitudes and false doctrines. He will judge the leaders, and all flesh who have disregarded his word, but he will reward those who love each other in the Lord. The commandment given is for Christians who are truly in Jesus Christ to love other Christians who are truly in Jesus Christ. This love is given freely, despite the color, race, and denomination that are associated with the belief. In addition, the love of Christ must flow out of us to bring the hurting, downtrodden, and the lost to the Lord.
Having covered these things, it is taken for certainty that you have received Christ as in John chapter one and been born again by the Spirit of God as in John chapter three and confessed your sin as in Romans chapters 3-6. All these things require faith and your repentance, along with keeping the commandments of God, read John 15.
Remember we must do these things, even if we lose our lives doing so. Read Revelation 12:11 and then chapter 22 of Revelation!
