Gods Highway is the Way of Holiness. While many find religion, you need the path to Holiness found in the Son of God. There was once a Highway I embarked on. It lead me to an encounter that to this day I remember to the depth of my soul. I was raised in Church, but the real story begins where that church left off. The truth of walking, having faith, and learning; was yet to come through a very hard path.
Gods Highway is the Way of Holiness
I remember well that patch of green wild prairie grass alongside the road out of Rawlins Wyoming. It is distant memory, yet it is close enough to touch. The highway had connections to Lander and other cities and was the main road heading north to Casper. Yet, for me, trouble and turmoil had come to a head. That was many years ago and for a child growing up a Methodist with Grandparents who were Methodist and farmers; this was a long way from the farm. Yet in miles, a not so far away place. However I found myself in a real world with a life situation and troubles that mounted. As a result, the place I knew as home as a child was now light-years away.
The church I went to was one where our families had gone. My grandmother and grandfather homesteaded the area coming to the valley in a covered wagon. They made a plain simple lifestyle with hard work. The Indians were close by and life went on this way. Grandpa dealt with the Indians who were Shoshone and Arapahoe. Yet in this hard lifestyle, there was time on Sunday’s to go to church after feeding the animals and tending to farm chores. This was the main stay of many people back then. For these it was a life of hard work, early to bed, early to rise, and then to church on Sunday’s. I was raised this way.
But the church was not very in-depth in the way of holiness or of sins. I do not recall every being told “I needed to be saved.” For that matter if anyone needed to be saved, or walk in the way of the Lord, it was not taught. As the Apostle Paul said “we are of them who believe to the saving of the soul.” The Methodist church had lost it’s fire and zeal along time ago. Hence, this was not taught or discussed as I knew it. Everything was tradition and hardline denominational teachings.
However, it was the way people did things back then. Life had been hard, but it was not as hard as in the beginning. With a more comfortable lifestyle, people did not think about sin and it’s punishment. They focused on life, work, and going to church. They knew of God and God’s son Jesus. But for the most part they did not accept or receive him. They were not taught in-depth that I knew of. I learned the bible stories well. But things got tough as I grew older.
As I knelt alongside that road on that sunny day, I knew at that moment I was a sinner. I knew I needed the Lord Jesus Christ. I knew I was in rebellion. I had also heard the “voice of who I knew to be the Lord”. Who spoke to me in the cab of the truck and I pulled over immediately and was solidly and thoroughly convicted. It was something I never learned in church. They never told me this part. I never heard this preached, that is, until after I had received the Lord. It was then my wife and I found a local church that did preach salvation.
Gods Highway called the Way of Holiness -Revelation
Rev 21:2 And I John saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down from God out of heaven, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband.
Rev 21:3 And I heard a great voice out of heaven saying, Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and he will dwell with them, and they shall be his people, and God himself shall be with them, and be their God.
Rev 21:4 And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away.
Rev 21:5 And he that sat upon the throne said, Behold, I make all things new. And he said unto me, Write: for these words are true and faithful.
Rev 21:6 And he said unto me, It is done. I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end. I will give unto him that is athirst of the fountain of the water of life freely.
Rev 21:7 He that overcometh shall inherit all things; and I will be his God, and he shall be my son.
On the cross Jesus said “it is finished”. The atonement for our sins and the penalty to be paid by the Passover Lamb was done. No more would men die for their sins when they did not keep the covenant. That is if they would repent and accept the Lamb, the sacrifice of God who was given for their sins. It was free, yet it cost everything. It was eternal, yet it was given to those without a hope of eternity with God. This Lamb is Yeshua, Jesus Christ; the Passover Lamb.
We then see above in Revelation twenty one and verse six the words telling us again “it is done.” The first one told us our atonement was completed. The next step would be for those whom Christ died for to repent and follow him. The final step is seen here in this process, where the “Alpha and Omega”, the Lord himself says “It is done.” With those three words, and the vision of the holy city, the New Jerusalem coming down from God out of heaven we know our full, final, and complete salvation had come to a completion.
Gods Highway called the Way of Holiness
As I read these words I know Salvation for me is an end of the separation from God. An end to this carnal nature, carnal mind, and lusts will be ours when we come to this full salvation. We no longer will be subjected to the world’s lusts, the rebellion of men, and being surrounded by all those things that are offensive to God and to those of us living for the Lord. In short those who are here at this scene above in Eternity are the “overcomers”. It is these who have overcome, “by the blood of the Lamb”, the “word of their testimony”, and “they loved not their lives unto death.” We will have a God, and he shall have many sons, one of whom will be me. Others will join with me in this. I plan on being an “overcomer”, period. I intend to make for this occasion, that is, to be with this God and the Lamb at the time of the end and the beginning of an eternity with God and the Lamb.
Gods Highway called the Way of Holiness
But take note here, leading to this arena of joy and fulfillment, salvation and redemption is a solid warning for those today. It is a “way of holiness.” Here those who refused the offer of atonement through Jesus Christ cannot enter in. Here are those who persist in their sins. Here are those who are fearful and unbelieving. Here as well, are those who do the abominable.
Rev 21:8 But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death.
Gods Highway called the Way of Holiness -Isaiah
Isaiah speaks of this highway and says it is called “the way of holiness”. He further says “the unclean shall not pass over it.” This highway, Isaiah says is for “wayfaring men”, those who are lost and need to find their way out of their sins. A highway for all who need help, but many as Isaiah says “though fools, shall not err therein.” This road is appointed for those who have gone astray and scripture points out “all have sinned and come short of the glory of God.” Again “God commands all men everywhere to repent.” Yet many do not, they ignore the atonement and will pay for this. Even churches today ignore this atonement and hope, much to the detriment of the poor souls who have found religion but not salvation! But to those who do follow this “highway”, the “way of Holiness”, they will not err therein. They will not stray from true salvation if they keep to the path. It is known by the words of Isaiah which says where the “redeemed shall walk.” In this highway are those who are the “ransomed of the LORD.” They will return to the Lord, having had their lost status replaced and thus have become sons of God [see John 1]. Man lost this status through the first man Adam and it has been regained through the atonement, i.e. the death of the last Adam, known as Yeshua, Jesus Christ. He is the Passover Lamb, the “lamb of God who takes away the sins of the world” as John put its. They will once again be rejoined to the Lord God and come to Zion, on the highway leading to the New Jerusalem. All sorrow and sighing will be gone, they will be leaping and singing, and have an everlasting joy on their heads. But take note the unclean shall not pass over this highway.
Isa 35:8 And an highway shall be there, and a way, and it shall be called The way of holiness;the unclean shall not pass over it; but it shall be for those: the wayfaring men, though fools, shall not err therein.
Isa 35:9 No lion shall be there, nor any ravenous beast shall go up thereon, it shall not be found there; but the redeemed shall walk there:
Isa 35:10 And the ransomed of the LORD shall return, and come to Zion with songs and everlasting joy upon their heads: they shall obtain joy and gladness, and sorrow and sighing shall flee away.
Gods Highway called the Way of Holiness
Moreover, I have [not to mention my wife and family] come many miles, troubles, and have shed many tears since that day alongside the road. Some tears of joy, others of sadness, and still others for sins. The road has been long and is far from the life I had as a young Methodist boy. Knowledge and understanding have increased in regard to the Lord God and his Son Jesus Christ, Yeshua Ha Massiach. In that knowledge, both for me and my family I pray that the Lord has shown through. Yet I shudder to think of the darkness that surrounded me and thus affected those around me. The what if “I did not listen to the Lords call”? Yes, this comes to mind. I thank God for knowing the truth, that truth setting me free. I am free to follow, pursue, and seek the Lord. There is no power on earth, beneath the earth, or in heaven that can stop me or anyone from doing this. The Father has set it up for those who want to know the truth, the true way, the life that he has set up. Now the devil may try to stop you, but even he cannot do a thing if a person truly wants to follow Jesus Christ and know both him and the Father.
Joh_10:29 My Father, which gave them me, is greater than all; and no man is able to pluck them out of my Father’s hand.
Gods Highway called the Way of Holiness
This is how we will make it through Jacob’s trouble, the Great tribulation, and anything else to come our way. Our enemy has no power to destroy what God has done for us and in us through Jesus Christ our Lord. We have been told in Revelation that we have already overcame! Overcame is past tense, a word of faith telling us that indeed we will overcome and in fact in the eyes of God we have overcame.
Rev 12:11 And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb, and by the word of their testimony; and they loved not their lives unto the death.
In addition, the truth is that there will be ‘no Canaanite in the house of the Lord.’ When we speak of ‘Canaanite’ here it is speaking directly of those individuals who lived in the land of Canaan and were thrown out by the Lord God for their sins. God gave their lands to Israel. Yet, the Canaanite is the type of a rebellious and anti-God individual in the world.
Zec_14:21 Yea, every pot in Jerusalem and in Judah shall be holiness unto the LORD of hosts: and all they that sacrifice shall come and take of them, and seethe therein: and in that day there shall be no more the Canaanite in the house of the LORD of hosts
Gods Highway called the Way of Holiness
Speaking to this, Keil and Delitzsch speak of this as a term denoting godless members of the covenant nation.
The term Canaanite is used to denote the godless members of the covenant nation, who came to the temple with sacrifices, in outward self-righteousness. [Kiel-Delitzsch, Hebrew commentary Zechariah]
There were those in Israel who came to the temple with sacrifices, in outward self-righteousness.
The term in Zechariah as Canaanites cannot be actual Canaanites for they were prohibited by law from entering the temple. These were Israelites who were “Canaanites in heart”[Ibid].
Gods Highway called the Way of Holiness
In this regard we find Ezekiel referring to Jerusalem saying to the inhabitants and to Jerusalem herself that they were birthed of Canaan. Their father an Amorite and mother a Hittite. This speaks directly to their rebellion against the Lord, their servitude to other Gods, and abominations they did. Such sins even went on in the temple itself.
Eze 16:2 Son of man, cause Jerusalem to know her abominations,
Eze 16:3 And say, Thus saith the Lord GOD unto Jerusalem; Thy birth and thy nativity is of the land of Canaan; thy father was an Amorite, and thy mother an Hittite.
Eze 44:9 Thus saith the Lord GOD; No stranger, uncircumcised in heart, nor uncircumcised in flesh, shall enter into my sanctuary, of any stranger that is among the children of Israel.
Eze 44:10 And the Levites that are gone away far from me, when Israel went astray, which went astray away from me after their idols; they shall even bear their iniquity.
Gods Highway called the Way of Holiness
Furthermore Ezekiel says that no stranger, uncircumcised in heart or in flesh shall enter into his sanctuary, even of those strangers among Israel. In addition the Levites who were far from the Lord and went astray would bear their iniquity. Now, the truth is, the stranger here could indeed be the Israelite who was astray and was uncircumcised in heart. The truth is, sin entered the temple. But in addition, the lesson here is that although sinners and sin is accepted or was accepted in the temple even among the priests and Levites, it is not accepted with God.
Today many churches accept abominations and are indeed a harlot as Israel was. They are full of religious, non-circumcised of heart people who have an air of religious pompous pride but show no repentance in regard to sin. You can get away with this even in today’s churches around the world. But in the kingdom which is coming, know this, nothing that defiles, or anything that worketh abominations, or maketh a lie will enter into it. In regards to Gods kingdom of holiness, only those written in the “Lambs book of life” will be able to enter.
Rev 21:27 And there shall in no wise enter into it any thing that defileth, neither whatsoever worketh abomination, or maketh a lie: but they which are written in the Lamb’s book of life.
Gods Highway called the Way of Holiness
The Churches and Pastors, Apostles and Prophets, along with the teachers of God’s word and the members of those churches themselves better take heed. It is not man’s religious ways but Gods ways that will find you out. You can hide your sins, make excuses, and refute that you need to repent. The best thing to do is to repent and seek the Lord as never before. Seek him while it is day, for the night comes when no man can work. There will be a day when your repentance will come too late! Be sure to seek him. It is not the church or membership that will get you to kingdom of God and the “way of holiness.” There is only one way! Seek Him today! Repent and follow him.
